Thank you Dr Tharaka for clarifying that the carcass was burnt AFTER the post mortem. The information received by me was to the contrary…..

Tharaka Prasad comments: just for update your knowledge on why they burning elephant carcass ?, after performing postmortem examination and other legislation procedures by DWC. The putrefying carcass of elephant need to buried or burnt to prevent health hazards of general public who lives around, specially where death take place at village. so DWC instructed to Gramasewaka to distroy the carcass and reimburse the expenses through the divisional secretary.
