Veterinary Surgeon Dr Chandan Jayasinghe and his team treated the elephant. Wildlife Department officials believe that as the baby elephant was weak it would have been abandoned after birth at the tank. This was the first time a new born elephant had been found. “We hope to hand over the elephant to the Athathuru Sevana- elephant orphanage at Udawalawe”, an official said.
