Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa ceremonially opened the third zone of the Yala National Wildlife Park today. The opening was parallel to the Deyata Kirula (Crown to Nation) exhibition, which coincides with the Independence Day celebrations, declared open yesterday in Buttala of Monaragala district. The visitors can access the Zone 3 of the famous Wildlife Park now via a gate in Galge area on the Buttala – Kataragama highway. Yala National Wildlife Park has five zones and three of them are now open for the visitors including foreign tourists. Only the Zone 1 of the Park, located 300 kilometers south of capital Colombo, was open for public view in the past due to terrorist threats. Yala, situated in the southeast region of the country in the Southern Province and Uva Province, is the second largest national park in Sri Lanka. The CNN Traveller magazine in its January 2011 issue featured Sri Lanka’s Yala National Park as a place of natural wonders.
