Human Rights…and now Animal Rights?

In spite of repeated calls from renowned elephant scientists such as Dr Preethiviraj, Dr Devaka Weerakoon et.al. that translocation is NOT a solution to the human elephant conflict, the DWLC continues this short sighted ‘quick fix ‘ solution of
translocating elephants . These experts have clearly shown with clear scientific data that translocating only ‘transloactes’ the problem, and that it does not provide a permanent solution to the problem.

With inadequately trained personnel, and poor resources, translocation of such large animals are always fraught with danger…and in this case resulted in a very gruesome,  untimely and totally un-warranted  death of one of the already rapidly dwindling tuskers in Sri Lanka.

With due respects to the great Bob Dylan…
How many deaths will it take till they  know
That too many elephants have died
How many times can a man turn his head
And pretend that he just doesn’t see
The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind
The answer is blowing in the wind…………….
